PHP Dev – v.002

by Chuck on Dec.14, 2009

Minor change to the PHP. Rather then have all 150 post tables dumped into an XML and try and have flash weed out the unneeded, the PHP does it for flash. So you get a 140 line XML file rather then a couple thousand. The database holds all of the iterations of the posts made. So if you make an edit, you can go back to a previous version. These database tables are all saved, adding to the bulk of a very simple query. NERD RAGE! So anyway… I took a guess and it worked out. I’m also pulling in the user info. I’ll start pulling up the other small things like comments and tags and well as try and get an e-mail form set up based on the poster’s e-mail info or maybe a guest book thing.

You my scoff at my work HERE. I’ll be updating the same flash file rather then making a new URL like I was with the project interactive. So you can Bookmark the URL and see the progress if you so choose to, but don’t because I’m sure you all have better things to do. And by “you all”, I mean Mom.

baby steps, baby steps …

PHP Dev – v.001

by Chuck on Dec.10, 2009

I’ve walled in a small part of my PHP endeavor. I just spent 3 hours trying to learn how to use the new PHPass encryption for logging a user into WP. I don’t really know how to write PHP, so I don’t really know how to use what I just read. I’m no closer to passing an encrypted password now then when I started.

So this is about the time the frustration sets in, so I need to walk away.

I’m beginning to think I might have put the cart before the horse. I think that maybe I should continue on just accessing the current content of the database, and display the public posts. Done and done. But it’s a little messy, so I’ll work on cleaning that up a bit. I’m thinking one post at a time, and a button press to view the previous posts? or maybe by day? Donno yet. I’ll just keep slapping together some code and see where it gets me. Work’n so far…

It’s been snowing sense about 10:30a, and I have horrible tires so I’m about 94.3% sure I’ll slide off the road doing something as simple as go to Meijer (a whole 5 minute dive down 44th ST). So I’ll be staying home tonight rather then my new weekly thing of spending some time with Brad and Sid making HORRIFYING music that will one day take the better part of pop-culture by storm, and then head out to spend some time with Sarah, which is becoming slimmer and slimmer as the weeks go on. Working towards a Sr. Show (which is on Arpil 15th at the GVSU Performing Arts Center so you should all be there!) can be tough work. I’m excited to see what she comes up with, and I know she’ll do great. Like all artists, she’s telling me about the pieces she’s working on, but not in full and not showing me the progress (the antici…pation is killing me). Having said that, I’m looking forward to the surprise…

Stay cool my babies… and safe on the slick roads, the radar at noaa.gov was showing rain… with 12 degree temps!… that’s just ASKING for someone to make a mistake…

Development Notes v0.007

by Chuck on Nov.16, 2009

I think this is the last installment of my dev notes.

I’ll allow a moment for this information to sink in… …

Ok, good?

Below is a link to, what I feel is, the completed version of the project loader. It’s got fancy video, an image viewer… and it’s even colorful! If I change anything, it’ll be minor. A color here or there and maybe a pre-load clip or two. Small stuff just to chrome it up before I add all the project data.

Please take a moment to view the Small Web File HERE and now it’s got video!

Development Notes v0.006

by Chuck on Oct.28, 2009

Yet again, a new installment of the up and coming Design Finedikly interactive experience. NOW WITH AN IMAGE GALLERY!

I added the Gallery Node instructions. I tried to save on load time, so you only get one image per button. The Thumbnail is the Regular image, just scaled. Also the gallery knows whether the image is too long or to tall for the gallery and correctly scales it to fit the designated area … That way I can use larger images and not have to re-size a ton if images for web use.

It’s nearly unbreakable, as long as you don’t click the next image too fast … can’t get that one quite fixed up yet… but I’ll get it…

For now, have fun checking out my bed head and trying to click fast enough to see what I’m talking about when it comes to breaking the gallery.

Development Notes v0.005

by Chuck on Oct.22, 2009

Over four months of NO development progress! I got a little busy, had work coming in, and it seemed as though the whole “Freelance” things was going to work out.

I was wrong. I am now on a war path to either find a client base with a ton of work, or a standing job/contract somewhere. And to do that, I need me a Portfolio to display my work. So, it’s back to development!

I wanted to do this before but didn’t for no real reason… So! Design Finedikly is proud to bring you, with the help of ‘Cheesy Blasters’ … Full Browser viewing!

Development Notes v0.004 – personal note

by Chuck on May.09, 2009

Lazy day! Doing some work too keep things headed in the right direction. I have added a few things in this update. I haven’t designed for some of the adds, as it’s still rough. I think that I have to, yet again, do a slight update to the design just to take the added changes into account. Either way, I’m happy with the overall progress, just not the time that it’s taking my to do it. I’m finding that I might be judging my actionscript a wee bit too rough. I think I’m trying too hard to make it unbreakable. I haven’t gotten it to glitch out yet, but I’m sure someone will soon enough.

Made a small change to the XML, adding a color to the button options. Also added the foot. I’ll put the logo here as well as the contact info and e-mail tool (that’s next).

Also removed the movieClip that had the dark glow on it and wrote it out in actionscript. It’s now on the foot as well as all the buttons. This removes one more movieClip that has to load.

Please visit the Small Web File Here too see the progress.

Development Notes v0.001

And so it begins. The development of Design Finedikly has started. I’m going to try to do these little installments as I go. My first move was setting up the XML and buttons. Sounds easy right. Well it kinda was, but I wanted it to be as dynamic as I could get it (mostly for fun). So with one base movieClip, and a couple to support movieClips to jell the design, making changes from here on in will be cake.

Check out the Small Web File HERE to see it. It doesn’t really do… anything … but it’s a start.

Also I added a page at in the top NAV for you to see and link to the past versions.
